In 1967, the 24 Hours of Daytona saw a fierce battle between the best American and European sports racing cars. While the Europeans ultimately triumphed and took the first three places, the powerful Ford MKIIs put up a tough fight on home soil. The Foyt and Gurney car qualified on pole position, but unfortunately had to retire with a broken connecting rod. However, the Americans did not rely only on the Fords, the powerful Chaparral with a huge wing also joined the fight, which stood second on the starting grid, along with the more conventional Chaparral 2D cars.

However, the Americans were not destined for it, the powerful twelve-cylinder red cars entered by the Europeans showed their class, with the roofless Spyder model winning, followed by two other red twelve-cylinder Ferraris. Together they demonstrated a dominant performance that was never to be repeated and American cars, this time the mighty Ford MKIVs, triumphed at Sebring and LeMans.
